water pump?
Hi,
Looks like its time for a water pump, I would like to buy ac Delco water pump best price I can find is $240, does anyone know of any place that can beat that price?
Any tips or advise on installing the new water pump,
anything else I may need to buy then the new pump and coolant?

ever think about an electric water pump unit? I'm having great luck with mine. It should also eliminate the leaking onto you're opti. Not trying to sway you, just an opinion.

IMHO at this point in the lifecycle of our cars I don't have any greater faith in AC Delco than I do in any other parts brand name vendor. You may be paying $100 more for the exact same pump but with only AC's warranty instead of a lifetime warranty.
FWIW I replaced the WPs on both ours and used pumps from Advance Auto Parts with lifetime warranties. *knock on wood* One has been in service for 6 years and the other for 1 year with no problems.
I don't remember the name brand of the pump but am fairly sure it was the cheapest new pump with lifetime warranty they sold.

Melting Slicks
I did a rebuilt one from Ebay. All that is involved is changing the seal and bearing. He also sells the kit to rebuild your own.

I guess its your call. It depends on how many miles are on the car and how much you want to spend. If money isn't a problem and you've got over 100K, I would change the whole thing.

I am actually working on my water pump.
Only advise is to drain perfectly your system, a good idea is to remove the knock sensors so no coolant is left.
If you have a normal optispark take care not to spill coolant on it.
When removing the pump be carefull not to damage any wires or conectors. They usually get in the way in the worst moment!
I found that tilting the pump with the drivers side lower would let me clear more easily the path to removal.
Be patient and work on a cold engine!.
Good luck!
