Default LT1 throttle body

Last Friday I helped a friend buy a aqua 1994 coupe with only 39,700 miles. She loves it. It is great shape and the color keeps growing on her every minute. I had to call her this morning and ask if she was in the garage staring at the car.

I gave her one of my books on Corvettes to read up on her C4. She called a little discouraged. She ran my 85 at the track last year and turned in two 13.7's. Not too bad for her first time at the track. The book showed that Car & Driver had tested the 1994 in the quarter using the manual 6 speed and ran a 14.1. She asked if the car would really only run a 14.1 . So, she has had the car only 3 days and is already asking about modifications.

What little reading I have done on the LT1 indicates that a larger TB helps performance. This is not always the case with L98's. Is there actually any performance gain to go to a 52mm or 58mm TB?

I told her that AFR's and 1.6 RR would be a good start. Tom Wong up in Vancouver said install my LPE 74211 cam with the AFR's with a little tuning and 375 RWHP . Not sure she could handle that. Remember a California SMOG car! DAMN.......

Thanks for your advice.

No. Changing out the TB in the absence of other mods is not going to improve performance one iota.

Big TB will do nothing on an otherwise stock LTX. Neither will a cat back exhaust.

If it's an Auto trans the best thing you can do for it is gears, stall converter and traction. That will put it as a mid 13 sec car w/ a dead stock motor.

Add on Ported heads (or AFR's) and a hot cam w/the above mods will put her in an 11 sec car and still pass smog.

If its a 6spd. She just needs to lean how to drive the car. My 92 6spd ran 13.50-high 13.30's @104-108mph depending on the air after I learned how to launch it on regular radials.

I'd start with a performance tune. That'll probably get about a 12-16 rwhp increase and it's plug and play. The other mods can come after that as she gets more familiar with what's going on with mods she'd make down the road. IOW a game plan.
