Optispark Replacement Seal
I just finished an Optispark replacement and a complete rebuild of ther cooling system, new radiator, heater core, WP, and hoses on my 1995 LT-1. Started it up no water leaks. At temp I had an oil leak. It materialized on the lowest point of the forward cross member, vehicle on jack stands. I surmised it was the Optispark Distributor seal.
Installed new seal after tearing down the front of the engine again (round trip 6 hours).
Important data for others replacing Optispark. FelPro Timing Cover Gasket Kit, FelPro # TCS 45956 contains 2 WP to block seals, 1 timing cover gasket 2 WP O-rings, 1 WP Seal, And 1-95644 Distributor Drive Shaft Seal. All this for $10 at O'Reilley's.
The seal can be replaced easily from the front of the cover without temoving the cover. For $10 anyone replacing the Optispark might want to change this seal. The new seal was considerably tighter than the old one!

I'm seeing the same leak on my car as described, and the water pump but not opti was replaced (previous owner).
I'm thinking if I have to yank water pump, opti, crank pulley, then wouldn't it be wise to replace timing chain and timing gears as well?
My first lt1 corvette lunched a set of timing gears, chain, and bent a few valves at 40k miles. Thank God GM covered that little mess under warranty (this was 1996).

Here's the difference between old and new opti seals. The old one let quite a bit of oil escape and get blown around the engine bay. Cheap and easy to do, once you get to it.
