Default Hot cam shifting RPM

What is the RPM your shifting at with your Hot cam? My light is set at 6000 now and I think it is a bit low. I think I was shifting my 95LT1 with the Hot cam at 6300 but forget

My rev-limiter is 6300, so I try to shift at about 6299. The power curve starts to fall off around 6000, but the power loss is not enough to justify going into the next gear yet as the power loss there would be even greater. Hold it as long as you can. Your LT4 probably makes even better power, perhaps your power curve is shifted upward slightly because of the better heads and intake.

Here's a link to my dyno graphs, you can see that it still makes good power all the way to the top.

Right on!! LT4's should be run right up to red line for maximum acceleration. The drop in engine torque going to red line still puts more torque to rear wheels than jumping up a gear.

Rich, I shift mine close to 6500, my heads are ported pretty big so I find I can get a little extra RPM out of the motor, this seems to keep the car in its sweet spot after the shift. However, after doing this repeatedly I believe this is what caused my valve spring retainer to break and drop the valve due to excessive valve float (most likely occuring on the power shifts). If you are using the stock LT-4/Hotcam springs you may want to keep the rpm down in the 6300-6400 range. Since you have the bigger gears you most likely dont need to spin it quite as high to put you back in the sweet spot.

Rich,

I have the rev limiter set to 6600 which is as high as the Hypertech will allow. By shifting at 6300 based on the tach gives just enough time to avoid hitting the rev limiter.
