anyone of the many of us with high coolant temps try
anyone of the many of us with high coolant temps try running WITHOUT a thermostat DURING THE SUMMER???????

Why??
Rather than make your car into a HOOPTI mobile, why not address what could be wrong with your cooling system to begin with?
http://www.corvette-guru.com/modules...orumpost121475
Did you........
Pull your radiator and have it boiled out
Replace a damaged or clogged radiator
Clean the debris out from in the middle between the radiator and condenser
replace a worn out water pump
replace old hoses
Flush entire system (Correctly)
I promise you, as I have proven time and again, if you correctly service your cooling system (requires a bit of effort) you'll not see these higher temps and the myth about C4s "engineered to run hotter" may actually die once and for all

1. hooptie 1169 up, 67 down
Any car that meets the following: a) driver must enter car through passenger side b) three different brand and size tires - 3 of them missing hubcap c) exhaust is held up by half a clothes hanger - other half replaces the antenna d) backfires every three blocks - loudest backfire being when car is turned off e) must open door at drive-threws as windows don't roll down f) you only get one AM station and the tape deck eats all tapes inserted g) can't open the glove box as the whole thing will fall out h) if you let go of steering wheel while driving you'll make a u-turn i) must manually move blinker lever up and down as it no longer blinks on it's own j) must keep one foot on brake and one on accelerator when at a complete stop k) has had the same temporary registration sticker in the window for the last 18 months l) has all the above issues but still has a $200 professional tint job

what are you guys calling "high temps"? I see 195 cruising in 95* weather. It will reach 225-230 sitting in traffic before the fan pops on and brings it back to 215-ish.... once moving again it goes back down.

interesting how so many heat transfer experts on cf have such intelligent and halarious answers ....manual signal light did make me laugh
yes donf i was just wondering if the increased coolant circulation and maybe increased coolant speed would cool the coolant better
my 87auto runs no hotter than all other makes and models do on the street ....its on the track it get so hot that the engine starts to detonate thats scares me

Mine isn't a daily driver and I only drive like 9 months a year. I've been running mine for several years without a thermostat, no problems at all.
I tried everything to get my temp. down, but nothing seems to work.
Bigger radiator
removed all AC stuff
160° thermostat
HD Meziere water pump

I'm at a loss for words.
Frank, google "running without a thermostat"
IN the mean time (this is outside of jhammons box) if your gonna race it, buy a bigger radiator.
There is no way in hell the OEM rad will keep up with the heat you'll generate on a track.
I got tired of the over-temps from a new and properly flushed OEM rad.
DeWitts solved the problem and I can't be happier. Unless you give a new ZR1

My axe is just about people going for HOOPTIE options prior to doing normal maintenance. I mean, you do all the things you are supposed to do to properly maintain that system and you still see high temps.....then OK let's look at upgrade options....but in this thread and many many others just like it....they go straight for HOOPTIEVILLE before doing what would be prudent and logical.

With the old stuffed full of crap radiator and condensor, running about 60% of what the car could do (not a lot of time ove 5k RPM) my 92 would see 230 ish after 20 min.
With a dewits and no condensor, running at 90% my 92 saw 200 after 30 min in over 90 heat.
My opinion - if you are just doing a few HPDE's a year, get a stock replacement cause it will take more to get your old one cleaned up.
Doing more than a few HPDE's - put in a dewitts or other quality 2 row radiator.
Now I have to get my oil cooler installed - I was seeing 270 ish oil.
I was hoping to wait to put it on the rebuild

The only problem I had was that the water pump didn't seem to like the high rpm so I have since switched to a Meziere HD electric pump.
I can't imagine that there are many C4s out there that see more extreme conditions than mine does and with a stock radiator and with the thermostat right where it should be, it works perfectly.
If your car is running hot, there is a problem somewhere. Taking the thermostat out is not the answer.
