What's the deal with 88 shocks?
I need new shocks but I notice 88's are one year only in some mags and then the rears are lumped in with 88-96 in others. Summit is having a sale on KYB's for $27 but they list 84-87 and then 89-96. My Eckler's catolog shows 88 fronts as a one year deal but then shows 88-96 for the rears. Anyone know if the rears are different or have PN's for the fronts?

The fronts are a unique year & model, but KYB does make them(I know cause I bought them). Rears are the same as later years. It shouldn't be a problem to get the correct shocks, they are available.

KYB's are very good shocks for the money, but depending on which suspension your cars is equiped, it my be a very hard ride. If your car came with Bilsteins shocks, you can send them to Bilstein to have them rebuilt and re-valved to your driving needs for about 50 bucks a shock.

The 1988 Front shocks are longer for some reason. The rears are the same as later ones.
The only difference between the '84-87 and '89-96 is piston diameter. I can't remember which one is bigger, but I am guessing the '84 -87 are bigger.
I do not remember how much longer the fronts are over the other years. I got this informaiton when I was dealing with Bilstein on getting the Corvette Challenge shocks to fit the later C4.

Well, i guess I'll call Summit in the morning and see if they can get the 88 shocks. I have the base suspension with leaking beat up shocks so they should be a vast improvement.

OK, Summit had the KYB Gas-A-Just shocks in stock for the 88, $27.95 each. Should have them next week. :D
