Default TCC Lockup - Is this really true?

In a thread about the tcc I was just reading a member stated;

"Pete K (a construction worker with a hobby , no thanks)will confirm but only relevance I know of between TCC and trans is that in the early T700 ( pre '88?)
you must have lockup because you only get full fluid flow to the trans cooler when TCC is engaged.
Running a later T700 with no lockup is no different than running old style trans like TH400 that had no lockup.
Only thing that suffers is fuel economy."

Is this true? I had a thread where I was asking about driving without lockup in my 85 and nobody ever mentioned not having full fluid flow to the cooler if not in lockup.

rodj - Thanks for the point to the thread. I had planned to put a B&M plate trans cooler on this winter along with some heat shields where the exhaust runs along side the tranny. Now I think I'm also going to add a Derale deep pan that has the cooling tubes. And of course a trans temp gauge. Why on earth would GM restrict flow to the cooler? Makes no sense to me.

Pete K. Knows his stuff with a Corvette 700R4 or a 4L60E Trans.

Dana at Probuilt Transmissions knows more than any transmission mechanic I have talked to on a telephone call.

They Both gave me lots of help and many great tips on rebuilding, modifying, and purchasing the correct parts to rebuild my original 87 Vert 700R4 Correctly the 1st time around.

I did all my own assembly, blueprinting, and remove and reinstalling work with my trans myself.

Cant thank Pete K. & Dana at Probuilt enough.

Construction worker or not, I am impressed with Pete K's knowledge and experience.

I am an Ex GM Master Mechanic, ASE Master Mechanic, and ASE Advanced Driveability. ASE's are Current and Good to go till 2014.

Yeah, a new member such as yourself ( i.e. a newbie) should not write dispariging comments (Pete K) about long time forum contributors.
