Default Driver side Mirror

I'm attempting the same thing. I don't know how to get to the two bolts either. I have isolated the connectors., but don't know how to replace it because I can't get to the bolts.

I will be watching this one, my mirror is cracked and needs replacement. While changing it out are there other viable options for the mirror for more viewing while maintaining the defrost option?

With the door trim off you should be able to see the holes to fit a 3/8 socket extension thru perhaps 11 or 12 mm socket required a couple of inches down from the top of the door near the front.

You may need to shine a flashlight to see the bolts .

It's been many years since I did this, but that's about what I recall, too. Two small holes in the metal door frame/panel that you can barely fit a socket through.

I'll be replacing the mirrors this weekend and will have pictures to post. There are two small hold in door panel to push a socket up through.

Next question: How do you disentangle wiring harness from interior of door?

Thanks all,

Mike

Default Drivers side mirror

If you are wanting to work strictly on the side mirrors for either the motor or defrost mirror replacement, please do not waste your time removing the door panels to access the 2 bolts from within the door panel. Those 2 bolts are strictly for removing the side mirror housing.
I will post pictures as soon as I figure out how to, hopefully tonight.

P.S. dont have a URL to post to, thought I might try garage.

To remove the mirror/motor use a non marring bar and pry between the top of the mirror (there is a flat slot area) and the housing. This will allow the mirror to pop lose from the trunion between the motor and the mirror. Three screws hold the motor to a mount within the housing and the connector for the motor/defrost are self contained within the housing. Reassembly is just the opposite of removal.

Please insure that any pressure applied to the mirror face is in the center and not around the edge otherwise you will crack the mirror again.

Pictures are in my album, anyone wanting to help me understand how to insert the images, please speak up.
