you won't find a cheaper one than Jeff (carfan18). 1.800.728.8267.
He does discount pricing for forum members. tell him I sent ya!
Jeff is the wholesale parts dude for a chevy dealer in Kansas.
You and I have the same opti - the expensive one!!! expect about 330.00 for it.
replace the waterpump, too... they are mutually inclusive... dammit.

Re: cheapest Opti? (bogus)
I just bought a new opti and water pump from Jeff today. After tax and shipping it was still under $500. Thanks Andy

The cheapest one you can get is one of the ones I have in a pile in the back of my shop. They sell for $5.00. They were pulled out for a reason though. :D :D

I might be wrong, but I think they only make the new style vented opti and everyone that needs a new one in the older LT motors are putting these on.

You can put a later opti on a 94. You need to change the timing cover (gaskets, seals, etc. Drop the oil pan, get it resealed. ) a different plug (simple change), add vaccuum hoses (simple change).
With the later model Opti you get better sealing, better bearings and vacuum breathing to keep moisture out. I don't recall hearing anyone with a later opti complain about it crapping out (I'm sure someone has had problems with one, I just don't recall it).
If you are going to stick with an early Opti, then be sure to at least reseal it with a liberal application of hi-temp RTV and add the vacuum hoses (see tech tips).

John,
It sounds like I'll go with the old style. Thanks for the info! Should I change the water pump while I am at it? If yes stock or electric?
Crummy opti :smash:
