How to bench bleed new master cylinder?
Are there any tricks to bench bleed a new master cylinder. aka.... do I have to worry about losing fluid in the transistion from the bench to the car? Do I leave the lines a little loose after bolt in and pump the brakes to get air out that will be trapped in the system at the brake line fittings????

Put the master cylinder in a vise, put brake fluid in and I use a screwdriver or a blunt tip rod ,put it in the hole where the master cylinder rod would go.. Keep pushing till brake fluid comes out of where the brake lines hook up ,thats it. Be careful brake fluid is nasty ,it will eat paint so put plenty of rags around when you bleed. Thats why you don't want to bleed on the car . Good luck Jim

There is a bleed kit you can get from your local parts store. It supplies adapters with rubber tubes. It screws into the outlet holes and the tubes feed back into the reservoir. That way you can keep pushing the plunger in and it recycles the fluid without spilling. Also you will be able see when the air has been purged as the bubbles are visabile in the resv.

Good advice about the bench bleeding kit. Some master cylinders come with the kit. You will lose some fluid when you install the MC in the car, and some air will get into the brake lines. You will have to bleed each caliper. Bleed until the fluid comes out clear with no bubbles. It a good idea to flush the entire system 2 years.
