Child Restraint Seat in a C4
I am sure my most recent thread title here on C4 tech has raised more than just a few eyebrows.........
Has anyone recently installed a modern child restraint seat in a C4 Vette in a safe manner?
I used the search function and read for the last hour.
And it has been done before by others in C4's, C5's, and C6's. Even C3's.
My 1987 owners manual makes mention of the Child Restraint System.
THE 1987 FSM Corvette Service Manual shows detailed "TOP TETHER ANCHOR ASSEMBLY".
I became a 1st time father at 40 years old last year.
My son is now 6 months old.
Ordinarily the wife hauls the baby around in her 1999 Honda CRV 4cylinder.
She is a computer IT specialist in the Medical field.
In the next few months she has to work overtime for her company.
Working long hours well after the Daycare provider closes.
We both work about 60 miles apart in opposite directions from our home.
So it it is most practical if I pick up my son after work on the days she has to work late.
My 1970 Trans Am is a Race Car on the street with Mickey Thompson drag radial tires.
That does not fly hauling a kid around.
My 1987 Ranger is too beat up at 407,000+ miles to make me feel confident hauling my kid around safely.
My 1963 Pontiac Grand Prix won't be ready till May or June of this year.
I am in the process of building up a pump gas burning street performance 1970 Pontiac 455 for it.
Going to be my daily driver and 2nd family car that 63 GP.
Have 5 other cars that are down or waiting to be put back together or for future hotrod projects.
So things Boil down to my 87 Vert tonight to use to pick up my Son from the daycare center on the nights my wife works late.
We have the latest "GRAYCO" child restraint seat in her Honda.
I can buy another base to install into my 87 Vert.
Or I can Buy another entirely New 2nd. Child Restraint Seat.
Keeping my 6 month old boy safe is my main concern.
Any tips or helpful comments greatly appreciated.
1987 C4 has no airbags.
And No, I am not going to buy another car.
Have enough as is for now.

I didn't use the tether. I strapped the seat in using the seat belt. You would have to drill a hole somewhere in the back to install one.
The child restraint seat doesn't fit well in a C4 because of the seat design. Comfortable for us but the child seat doesn't fit well. Strap it in as tight as you can with what you have. It is as safe as the original car design allows.

My boy has many cars to play with when he gets older.
I am sure his favorites will be the 1987 C4 vert, 1970 1/2 TA, and the 63 GP like his dad's.
What brand of cars seats have you tried in your C4?
What brand or model fits just right?
I have the leather sport seats in my 87.
thanks,

Don't have an answer, but maybe a way to figure it out.
Take a tape measure and see how wide the seat is at the narrowest point.
Go to toys/babies'R'us and measure the seats they have.
Buy the one closest to your measurement.
Congrats!
