Default timing and octane

im trying to set mine for maximum peformance and always heard that you only need higher octane if youre experiencing detonation. i was wondering what octane/timing setting you guys are running so i can get a good idea of where to start setting mine. ive got mine set at 6* with 89 octance right now with no audible knock. should i move up to 94 octane and set my timing as high as it can go without spark knock? any suggestions?

If you don't have any problems with detonation, you could run 10 degree's with no effort. See how the car likes it. It may experience detonation. My car had alot of mods and was very very sensative to timing and octane. The car needed 93 octance to prevent pinging while set at 8-10 degree's. I wouldn't run more than 10 degrees. Running the 94 octance may provide some perf. advantages, however, it definetly will not hurt detonation and perf.
Good Luck.

So far I've not "heard" knock with the Vette though I've seen knock counts and resultant spark retard on the Auto Xray.

Don't trust your ears to tune spark advance, use a scan tool. Then you can advance till you just see a few knock counts and back off a degree or two.
