C5 wheels on a C4?
I just purchased a set of C5 wheels 17/18" for My 92 C4. From what I have read the offset should work fine.
I assume I will want to run 275/40/18" on the rears. Will those be exactly 1" larger dia. than my 275/40/17's and how much will that effect final drive ratio/speedo?
My main question is what is the idea size for the 17x 8.5" fronts give it the correct rake? Thanks! Any Pic's of the combo's would be much appreciated.
On a side note My current rim/tire combo in my avaitr/pic will be up for sale to fund some new tires. They are C6-z06 motorsport rims in C4 offsets 17X9.5 all 4. They are black with machined face and chrome bolts around the paremeter. The tires are Goodrich 9/32 front and 7/32 rear. the wheels were put on about 1,500 mi ago and are almost the cond. when bought new. I will post a add in the sale section thanks.

Those are the same wheels I have and I'm running 275/40-17's on the front and 295/35-18's on the rear. They fit perfectly. I just got new tires and they are right on with the speedometer. When my speedo says 70 so does my GPS.

If you want to keep the new tires as close as possible to the OD of your original, then look for 275/35-18
Current tire: 275/40-17 = Approx. 25.7" Diameter
New tire: 275/35-18 = Approx. 25.6" Diameter
The 295/35-18 that 1963SS mentions would also work and have a diameter of Approx. 26.1"
So, you can see it is slightly taller tire.

Been running C5 wheels for years now.Run the stock C5 rear(275/40/18) and the stock C4 front(255/45/17).My car has 4.10 gears so the taller tire doesent bother me.
Mine has been lowered also so I like to stay with the stock front size as the C5 front(245/45/17)would put me lower even more.

The 295's on the rear of mine (Conti DW's) are all that will fit without sticking out beyond the top of the wheel opening. I believe that the size tire that will fit is based somewhat on the manufacturer. Here is a pic of 315 Sumitomo's stacked beside 315 Goodyears. I would think that the Sumi's would fit and the Goodyears......not so much.
You would think that the sizes would be identical based on the math required to size a tire. Maybe Japanese math is different.

Here you go: RT 615's, and they stick well for a street tire. Like I said they fit perfect on the 10.5 inch rim, and yes that is stock ride height.

I know this is an older post. But I am hoping it will cover what I want to know without starting a new thread.
I would like to keep the 17 inch wheels on my 1995. Could I buy 4 of the front c5 rims and place them at all four wheel locations and keep the same tire sizes?
Thanks

Yes but bear in mind the C5 fronts are 8.5 inches wide and the stock 17's(rears at least) were 9.5 wide. You are giving up a little width but it will work fine.

The C5 Wagon wheels are 17x8.5 Front 18x9.5 Rear.
The C5 Thin Spoke wheels are 17x8.5 Front 18x9.5 Rear.
The C5 ZO6 wheels are 17x9.5 Front 18x10.5 Rear.
So, you could use any 9.5" Front or Rear wheel on all four.

Sorry if the questions are silly. Just want to stick with the 17 inch rim.

The 275/40 tire mounted on a 8.5" wheel will be squeezed a little more and the sidewall will have a slight bulged look.
The 275/40 tire mounted on a 9.5" wheel will have a proper fit and the tire sidewall will have a flush look.
It's like a person with a 45" waist trying to fit in 40" waist pants!...It might fit but, won't look quite right!...

So based on that logic,,,,I can rotate my stock sawblades (to get more miles out of them) , staggered, and it will be ok,,,will look funny to the trained eye,,,,but I wont be able to take on/off (circle) ramps as fast due to losing 1" width in the rear....lol...or maybe I can since I'll have 1" more in the front to grab??..
.... ....
I have yet to see a post about rotating sawblades,,,,,
