Default Rusty brake rotors from Corvette Central

I bought rear brake rotors from Corvette Central and within 2 weeks they where totaly rusty, the hub, the face where the pad does not contact..everywhere. So I send them back and buy some raybestos ones..which have been on the car for about 3 weeks ..and no rust..my front rotors are 7 years old and only have some rust on the outer edge...they leave me a voicemail saying that this is normal and they are sending them back to me ..no refund have a nice day..WTF..just got off the phone with them ..they will call me back Monday...and yes when I get them back I will post pics..but no way am I letting this go..tired of crap parts...

I think most if not all "white box" rotors will rust at the first exposure to moisture. That's been my experience at least.

Indeed. You can't expect an untreated piece of cast iron to NOT rust.

Its normal. Go look at new cars on the lots. Rotors are iron. Iron oxidizes. I have Raybestos Pro line rotors on my C4. They have rust. Only way to keep them from rusting may be paint or powder coat.

But here's the thing, my front rotors are fine, very little rust on them, some on the outer edge...these are totaly rusted and look like ****..not putting them back on the car, i put on Raybestos that are rustproofed and are holding up pretty well...

Fairly strange that the rears rusted more than the front. Oh well. I'm going to run the ones I have down and get the rust proof ones when I feel like it.

Cheaper grade cast iron used on the aftermarket bought brake rotors.
China ?
Our own recycled metals mixed together with very little smelting operations to separate impurities.

Original GM installed C4 rotors don't rust easily or readily on my 87.
Even after 25 years,
Very little rust present on them & hub mounting surfaces.

Many different grades of cast iron made.
Nodular iron being one the best.

The one's that are not rusty may have been zinc plated. Many are doing this now, even the one's made by Wong Fung Chow over in China. You can knock the rust off and either paint or use some rust preventive coating.

I hate to pee in your cornflakes, but unless they're painted or plated they'll all rust. It sounds like you got what you paid for.

Had bad luck with Raybestos rotors. Bought some from a vendor here that were zinc plated. At the time it seemed like a sales gimmick. That was 3 years ago; they look new. Never a molecule of rust.

Seriously? Rust on brake rotors? So easily cleaned and painted.

However, It would be in CC's interest to cleanup their inventory before shipping.

$200 a pair drilled and slotted with their "premium" pads?

I think this may be a done deal....

Thats exactly what is going on.

Rust is unavoidable on steel or iron parts that get abraded and exposed to water. Its chemistry. Thats IS why people that want "pretty" rotors look for zinc coated...for rust prevention.

Rust won;t hurt anything...except your pride.

After a 7 month deployment, rust is easily fixed by a *** to *** MPH deceleration on I-5 in Cali!

Nope, not going to tell you.

...yessir...

I used to "clean" mine on trips back to LA from Vegas...somewhere between Vegas and Ca. Cruising south on 15 toward Ca at 120- 140 in the dessert and seeing that car parked on top of the overpass that just don;t look right......will clean the rust off pretty quick !

Last time I got caught it was a $800 speeding ticket. It was 5 miles from the place where I got spotted and I was only doing 60 when a very excitable hiway patrol officer finally caught up to me telling me right up front that he did'nt get a good clock on me but the fact that he had to do 120 to catch up told him I was going a little too fast......The Nevada court felt the same way......

27 years on my stock 84 calipers. Not pretty, but no rust.
