Default New Personal Best at 1/4 mile

Very cool 55ish. Track was slick until rubber got layed down. I spun something fierce on my 1st two passes in the right lane.

I managed to blow the doors off a new Subaru WRX twice on my BAD passes, those cars are supposed to be mid 13' second cars. I manged to 60 foot better spinning than he did in a AWD car???? I hooked the next pass, it was over before it began. He was stuck in the mid 14's then he left. How is that for a 18 year old car....hehehe.

When I didn't spin or miss a shift (sigh) trap speed ranged from 102-106.53, out of 8 passes 5 where in this area, 4 of which where 104-106.53.

New best ET 13.48@ 106.53. New Best 60 foot (2.01) and 1/8th mile (8.70) on the same pass, then I missed 4th at the end of the track. &*#((@!!!!(#*#@. (SIGH.....)

60 foots ranged from 2.01-2.09, with the exception of the 2 runs I spun a LOT. So that is much better than ever. I ran a total of 16 passes the last two saturday's. Total of 33 passes on the car so far, in my ownership. There is more there...I just need to find it.

Here is a comparison I ran a new Challenger with a tune on it, guy could drive too...he ran the follows 60 foot 1.91 1/8th 8.45 @82 1/4 13.19 @104.53. I got the HP and the speed, I need the 60 foot a tenth faster, heck I am launching at 5K now and slipping the clutch for maybe 10-20 feet and getting no wheel spin. I think a tenth is best case all I would get out of the car as it sits. IDK???

Car comes out of the hole like this very smooth, RPM's drop as I engage clutch but I feed throttle at the same time, when clutch is fully engaged I am at WOT. I did it perfect (pretty much on the 2.01 60 foot pass). I'm committing how it felt and sounded to memory. No jerkiness just a smooth rush of acceleration.

All in all not too bad for just a C4 LT1 ZF6. I saw a C5 auto run 13.90....

Way to go! I am impressed with your trap speed of 106.5 mph. My best when my motor was stock was 13.6x, but MPH was way less at 102 mph.

Curious about the Challenger. Was it the R/T or the SRT-8? Also was it a stick car or auto?

Sounds like you had fun which is what counts!!

I've got 5 time slips with trap speed in 108+ range. My 60's stunk so did the ET's, I was not spinning, no idea why so fast at the end of the 1/4, but it was. Maybe it was the Sunoco fuel, car likes it, a LOT. That was last October, so mine shaft air too.

It was a R/T 5.7 and an auto. The guy was messing with the tune so it was NOT stock, just close to stock. Some Challengers even SRT8's where slower. I saw a new Camaro SS run high 13's and low 14's all afternoon-evening. I'd be ticked off if I bought a 35+K car and got beat by a 18 year old Corvette. I'm not impressed with them, the new 5.0 Mustang, wow, serious performance out of the box/potential.

Trackman2, maybe next year, my car is close to being put away this season. If the weather cooperates I might do an auto-x next weekend, after that 5 months in the barn for the Corvette.

What tire are you on?

You should be able to feed it more clutch hit than 20-30ft out without a traction problem... espc with a 2.0 60ft.

When my 92 was all stock I could get it in the high 1.80's with the old BFG 315 drag radial and run 13.30's at 107. On 315 Sumitimo's it was a 2.0 60ft car....

Your on the right track with your driving. It just takes seat time. I'd recomend you drop the RPM down to 4000 or 4500 and hit it with the clutch harder initially.... then feed the rest out like your doing.

The newer WRX's can get well into the 13's until the stock clutch starts slipping. How well AWD cars leave have alot to do with the driver as well....

This talk makes me excited that I still have one more week left at the local 1/8th mile.

Thanks for that. I was wondering because my work car is a new Charger R/T which is basically the same performance as the Challenger R/T. It certainly is quicker then the older 340chp Hemi, and runs pretty good for family car.

You are right, I wouldnt be impressed running high 13's/low 14's in a new Camaro SS.

Do you know what the D/A was? And yes those new Stangs are pesky. That new 5.0 motor certainly is impressive.

In my stock 95 my best time is a 13.6 @104 mph and that was on a hot humid night the tempt was 230. Going to the track Friday night with Long tube headers, X pipe no cats,I am also putting on a manual fan switch to run them all the time to bring the tempt down ,curious to see the improvement in my times and mph.

I've had good success with street tires and 60' times by launching off idle and rolling into the throttle as I let out the clutch. A best of 1.86 running Kuhmo MX's. Maybe something try try on one of your runs next time at the track.

Kumho Escta SPT's at 22psi.
I had to learn how to slip it, before I was letting it out too fast and hitting the throttle all at once. Got wheel spin or bog. So I've improved. I agree the car will take more clutch sooner, I need to learn how to slip the clutch less. Better for the clutch and 60'.

I'll try it next time out. I get excited too... Its fun.

I don't think the guy in the Subie could drive....

@88BlackZ-51 not sure on the D/A. How can I find this out? I know the track is about 1500' and it was around 55 degrees with low humidity and a light 5-10MPH crosswind.

@Trackman, if you by Keystone you mean Pittsburgh Raceway Park, yes, and anyone can run just about anything on a Test N' Tune. As long as your car is NOT a total POS, and if your faster than a 13.99 take a helmet. As long as you got one they really won't give you any trouble even if only DOT. I bet for track use you have a Snell anyhow so...
Here is the schedule for the rest of the season: http://www.pittsburghracewaypark.com/schedule

@C4 Speed Post up your results!!

@STL94LT1 Mr. Mojo had a lot of success with this from what he told me. I have considered trying it. I tried it once but it failed. I might do it again. Would be a LOT easier on the clutch and car. Worth trying and if it works, even better.

What do you do, blip the throttle on take off as you engage the clutch quickly then roll to WOT??? Otherwords a quick flare (slipping clutch a little) with full clutch engagement at like 3K then WOT???

Mr. Mojo had a video I saw one of him doing it, seemed like it worked really good. I'll have to find it again.

Off idle I would release the clutch like a normal takeoff and at the same time be rolling into the throttle, verry little if any clutch slip. I have 4.10 gears, so you might have to slip the clutch a little with stock gears to keep your car from bogging.

I'll give that a try next time I'm down that way. In the spring, when it is warm again...

I gotta get time and good weather to get the car ready for her winter nap. Supposed to snow Saturday high of 36. Welcome to Western PA where the weather stinks...

I doubt it is that bad. I've seen some stuff that is REALLY bad, run. If you can race it at a road course I bet it will be fine. Pending you get a engine.

Sound like fun! great times

I have a 93 ruby as well and went 2 weeks ago to the track with my new setup. Long tube headers, full 3" exhaust, short shifter and 315 m/t's. My best past was a 13.09 but my 60' times were around 2.0 with a best of 1.99.
Best run was rolling into it off idle like STL94LT1 said, however I never tried launching it higher than 3k. Guess I just need some more seat time

Also, it was a bit hot (80's) and my coolant temps were high with fans on when I was running. That defiantly didnt help!
