Default Ls7 in a 87 c4!!

I have read through all the ls swap threads and see what it takes to do but has anyone done a ls7 swap?
I know the block is the same dimensions as the ls1,2,etc blocks so the same motor mount adapetrs would work but what about the extended crank snout along with dry sump oil system including the oil pan?
Most other ls swaps people use a fbody ls1 pan.

I ask because i have a chance to pick up a ls7 shortblock from a friend in a cpl hours and i have been thinking about a ls swap for a while and this just popped up.

Anyone know of anyone that has done it?
Goggle doesnt turn up much.

it may not be as direct of a fit, but im sure if any other ls fits you could fit an ls7 in there. none of these are direct bolt ins so customization is always required. ls7's are very expensive, so you gotta figure you can get the shortblock cheap but its still gonna cost alot to get the rest of the motor. id consider picking up the shortblock depending on price, and reselling it and putting that money towards a complete ls 1,2,3, or 6

I'm sure it will be alot of work especially with the dry sump and all, but if you think you can do it, go for it. Love my 08 LS7.

You will be miles ahead of the game if you did the swap. 580 at the wheels with heads and cam and exhaust is not unheard of. But you will be missing the boat on the rest of the package. Braking handling and so on....

Im in the middle of the c6 z06 brake upgrade now, waiting on the new front caliper brackets from van steel from the other thread!

Im def doin either a ls3/l92 or ls7 swap!

I already read on how guys are mating a t56 6 speed behind ls motors to our c beam and making shifter work and i know adapter brackets are already made for ls swaps.Only thing diff with this swap wld be like i said earlier the dry sump system with longer crank snout.I guess i cld always bolt a reg fbody ls oil pan and covers on it and put a standard ls stroker crank with normal crank snout and make it a wet sump ls7.Then it shld be like the rest of the ls swaps.
But id love to keep the dry sump system!
Someone has had to try this before me?!

I know its a labor of love but a $15K+ motor in a $3k car? Not that I wouldnt love this set up in mine but ouch! I would probly try to find one of the more common LS's and get plenty of power for a lot less money. There is a lot of info here on these swaps. I think forum member Chaos is doing a LS1 right now or has finished his project. I just saw his thread again the other week.

Good luck with it and keep us posted on what you decide.

Vettaid sells a lot of the bits & pieces you'll need

http://www.vettaid.com/

For accessories use the GM kit and high A/C bracket from Kwik unless you want something dressier:

http://www.kwikperf.com/index.html

You'll need a ECM & wire harness (from GM or ?) & may need various adapters from Dakota to get your guages working:

http://www.dakotadigital.com/index.c...=cat/cat59.htm

Good luck & keep posting.

I had a LS3 "hot cam" installed in my '92. You probably read the thread in this section entitled "LT1 conversion to LS3 hot cam". If you did not, you may want to look at it. You can also google "C4orce2" and look for the photobucket. It has an album entitled "build of C4orce2" which has over 30 pics of the build. I was only capable of writing the checks but you will get an idea of all that was involved in the build. The mechanical issues were not nearly as bad as the electrical ones. We were able to save all the digital functions on the '92 with the exception of the cruise control and traction control, neither of which we even tried to save. My results were great with the car now tuned at approx SAE net hp of 588 and tq of 605. If I can help you in any way during your build, let me know. I can at least refer you to people who can help. Good luck.

OKAY,its not set in stone just yet but looks like a ls7 swap will be a go!!
Block looks ok but im onna have it checked over.
Then my buddy threw a curve at me and made me a offer i think im gonna jump on.He offered me this which he had just laying there waiting to be assembled!
brand new
warhawk LS7 9.800 tall deck block with stock 4.125 bore
the whole rotating assembly which incudes a 4.500 stroke callies crank,6.440 callies rods, diamond pistons!!!
Its equates to a 481 C.I LS7!!!
I have both blocks and setups at my house now!
Gonna do some more homework but i think im gonna jump on the warhawk setup
So how does a 481 ci ls7 c4 sound??

I am trying to understand this.....

You installed a LS3 hotcam in your 92, and it made 588hp and 605tq on the engine dyno?

What are the meat and potatoes of your build?

Stocl ls7 block is looking more and more it will need a rotating assembly.2 rods bearings were spun and crank has color in it so it took alot of heat.So looks like crank is shot along with 2 rods.Block looks ok but im onna have it checked over.
Then my buddy threw a curve at me and made me a offer i think im gonna jump on.For just over whats its gonna cost me for a new rotatng assembly for the stock ls7 block he offered me this which he had just laying there waiting to be assembled!

That sounds like alot of time, and money.....

Also sounds like no traction in 1st, and 2nd. Should hook and go straight in 3rd.

Most of it is explained in my thread here entitled "LT1 conversion to LS3 hot cam". GM performance advertises this crate engine as having SAE net hp of 485 and net tq of 475. However, when I told several car nuts what I was putting in the car they all told me that the engine was over 500 hp and tq right out of the box and that GM understated its power. When the build was complete and before the tune I had it dynoed on a dynojet dyno and a loaded dyno. After doing the conversions they both showed the engine at around 515 SAE net hp. I then had it tuned on a Dyno Dynamics loaded dyno and the tuner got it up over 585 SAE net hp and 605 SAE net tq, according to the tuner and the manufacturer of the dyno. Much more power than I ever expected. I guess its the combination of the engine, cold air intake, long tube headers and 3" exhaust all the way. Of course the cam and larger injectors that come in the engine make most of the difference. I do not race the car at all and really don't care that much about the hp and tq, but everyone keeps asking me what the numbers are and I only tell people what I have been told by the builder and tuner. If you want to see pics of the build, google "C4orce2" and look for the photobucket. It has an album with the pics. You can get all the specs on the engine from GM Performance.
