88 power seat track mystery.
I hope someone can help me figure this one out. I purchased two rebuilt power seat tracks from Wilcox. Went to install them this morning and decided to plug them in first to make sure they worked before bolting them in. Well, when doing the passenger side, all directions worked except the front upward tilt. I checked for power at the connectors, and there is power to the connector and motor when I work the switch. First thought a defective seat track. But I went to the drivers side and tested it there, and on that side, the rear upward tilt doesn't work. A mirror image of upward tilt not working. I tried both seat track, and same results. Any suggestions????

Well....found the problem. Turns out it was the switches. I sprayed some crc electric cleaner into the switches and ...poof...they now work in all directions. The Willcox tracks work great. Now if only I can figure out how to get the seat backs off so I can replace the covers!

Its hung on hooks that are open inward, so squeeze & fold inwards to get the backs off the hooks. They are just bars and simple hooks, not complicated at all. Just takes knowing the secret.. The real fun is putting it back together...
even then, there is a way.
lay the seat on its side and hook one side and use your body weight as leverage to help push/fold the seat back so it can catch the latch...

I do have another question regarding the seat tracks. My 1988 tracks have a spring connecting from the base to a bracket on the gear housing. The new tracks don't have the mounting area to use the spring. Is the spring necessary?

No, you'll be fine. It was a GM design change.
