Default Help fuel problem in a early 86 tpi

Hi I just got this car 2 weeks ago. it was running a little rough so I did plugs, cap, rotor, and wires it ran good for a few days it seems the car was running a little rich. I had no fuel pressure guage but did some reading and found the fuel pressure regulator had a very strong odor of gasoline in the vacume line so I replaced the regulator. I tried to start the car it started and ran for about 3 seconds then it dropped 1 cylinder after another in rapid sequence and is flooded big time. any ideas.

things that come to mind -- either an improper installation of the regulator diaphragm, or it was faulty out of the box. Not much else to cause flooding with fuel, other than injector(s) stuck open, which isn't very common.

Did you have any codes before or after the change?

Ok got it running I pulled all the plugs, killed power to the fuel pump, dried everything out, installed new plugs. The car runs now but it seems to still be running rich. Also when it is cold ie 50 degrees out and I first start it it idles at about 400 rpm and I need to give it a little throttle to keep it running for a few minutes until it warms up. Idle surges after the car is warmed up.

Check the connection for the ninth injector. Left side deep between the runner pairs.

You'd best check your oil ASAP, as I suspect there's probably fuel dilution of it. Run the motor that way, you'll get some nice toasty bearings.

Ok update....
Oil change..
New plugs..
Injectors are fine and fuel pressure is good now..
Still have a running problem running super rich like stand behind the car running and your eyes burn traced it to a fualty TPS at idle it was 1.43 volts at WOT it was 3.21..... So I put a new tps in and now it is idle 0.50 and WOT 4.63 the hot wire at the plug is 4.98 the sweeper arm is not going all the way open but the butterflies on the intake are full open. Now the.car.seems to run a lot less rich but now the car is idleing at 1200 rpm warm and about 800 - 900 cold

Fueliing is a function of the Coolant Temp Sensor - see what the ECM is seeing by Scanning it. If accurate, possibility that the MAF is inaccurate which is more easily diagnosed by swapping in another one - that's a tad expensive, but then you'll have a spare. The other possibility is it has a vacuum or exhaust leak which allows unmetered air pass the O2. The O2 reads lean and it dumps more fuel than it needs. I'd start with the Scan to check the Coolant Temp Sensor and then look at Block Learn to see if there's a lean condition.
