Default OBX Catback Exhaust Came In today.

I went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered the catback exhaust from OBX for my 94 vette. I'll try to document some of the installation if possible and try to take some pics too. The install should happen tomorrow night!!

Please keep us up to date on the install. I'm going back and forth between putting headers on or just mufflers (much easier) on my 96 LT4.

What do you think about the OBX quality so far?
Thanks,
Dave

I bought the OBX few months ago and the time has come this month to get it installed. The smog check is done, The Magnaflow 16837 broke again and I think I'm just going to dump it this time. It drones if you have a 3.45 or 3.73 gears, with hi-flo cats will drone at any speed, it needs to be modified because the O2 plug on the drivers side hits the clutch's master, the resonator is to big and hits speed bumps, the X pipe is to wide and rubs on the tunnel and if they give me a new system I will have to re-do all those mods again.

Few members had installed the OBX and are very happy with it. The only problem I have is that this system is not for OBD2 C4s. I have to install a plug for the O2 sensor that goes after the cat on the drivers side. That's easy, go to a muffler shop and tell them to drill, weld an O2 plug..."here"

So far the quality looks really good on the system and the welds seem perfect! I'm slightly O.C.D. About the what I put on my vehicles sometimes so I am happy with the tips on it but not ecstatic. I wish they would have taken just a little more care with the mirrored finish on the tips but hey, it's exhaust...and if I can live with it, I'm sure the majority of people wouldn't even notice it. I'll polish them out when finished. in regards to my application, I have a completely stock exhaust system so I'm eager to see if the OBX really does use the stock hangers and will bolt right up. The man I spoke with from the company said everything would bolt up without a problem, but we have all heard that before. I try to keep everyone in the loop! Oh ya, in case anyone is curious, the entire system is 63 lbs. and currently has NO drone as it sets on my office floor!! Hehe

I agree! For $430 shipped, it made budgeting for exhaust much easier. The $1200 that they want for Corsa is just ridiculous to me, or even the cost for the other systems that have the well known terrible drone are still double the price of the OBX. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that things go well once I get it up on the lift this evening. Wish me luck!

I know people often compare OBX catbacks to Corsa, but do they sound the same? If OBX drones I don't see the comparison other than appearance.

I put the OBX system on behind long tube headers with no cats about 6 months ago, then sold the C4 last month. The fit and finish seemed excellent and I think the sound was very close to a friend's vette with the Corsa.

pretty common with vette exhaust, better systems have 'x' pipes and cross pipes, etc. to alleviate it. its kind of a deep ringing in your ears. the biggest issue at least for mine was making sure the tail pipe actually exited out from under the car and not partially under it. hope this helps

I just installed my OBX catback yesterday. The sound is nice and throaty without being overly loud. Job took me about 6 hours and should've taken maybe an hour at most. Unfortunately I ran into a few problems and did not have the proper tools. Other than that, I'm happy with it.

...BIG TIME. I was a "sucker" and bought the Corsa "cat back" for my C6. (On the C6, "cat back" means AXLE back, so you're paying $1200 for two mufflers and two pieces of bent pipe that are about 2' long each -yikes). After all it was hands down, the most highly rated system on these forums. Ask anyone on the C6 forums...Corsa is "the best" -they'll tell you. Well, it's not the best and I thought it sucked. Yes, there was "no drone" (mostly), but the remaining sound was LAME, the thing weighted a ton, the Fit & Finish was not superior at all and the tips didn't look all that great to me either. Later bought a GHL that was better built, lighter, and sounded better.

Corsa exhaust is hands down, the most highly over rated (and over priced) brand on these here forums. I personally am glad that OBX is here to kick Corsa's ***.

A funny thing back on the C6 forums...you should have SEEN how BUTT-HURT people were when OBX came out. They'd argue anything to help themselves feel better that their $1200 was well spent, right down to the metallurgy...of which they knew nothing about for either brand! It was ridiculous.

westman
what few problems did you run into and what did you do to fix them? Were you working on a lift or just a creeper?
Thanks
Dave
