Need to learn to datalog
I just recently installed a new 383 in my 91. PCMforless did a mail order tune with the info I gave them and the car is running pretty good, but definitely needs some fine tuning. Instead of having them guess, I'd like to do a datalog. I have no desire to burn my own chip. I just want to buy what I need to make a datalog to send to the tuner.
I know I need to cable to attach to the car. I'm guessing one of these will work?

What else do I need? Software?
Any help would be appreciated.

I've had good luck with your second link, the ALDL cable. (you'll be using pin M.....the 8192 baud).
PCM likes to use TTS Datamaster: http://www.ttspowersystems.com/DataM...ownloads2.html
Look for the 90-91 Y car program which is DM35x8D
Good luck!

Not required. If you do major mods the wide band O2 sensor is helpful. Datamaster is the best tool I have. Its great to see what the motor is doing and what happens when you make a change.

I got the cable and downloaded Datamaster. I tried my hand at datalogging tonight, but I'm having some sort of issue. I got it to read data, but every 3 seconds or so it says "lost connection" and the stream stops. It then re-connects for a few seconds before losing connection again. I tried using the 10k resistor, but no change. It just toggles back and forth between "reading data" and "lost connection". I'm not very computer literate so I'm sure that doesn't help. Any ideas?

This will be like the blind leading the blind........
Did you download and run the interface tester at the bottom of their download page? The only other thing I can think of is to send TTS an e-mail or do a search.......I think you'll find quite a bit on the subject.

I figured it out. After searching through many, many threads I found a common theme on 90-91 cars. In the TTS software you need to go under advanced options and diable "CCM handshake" and "dash refresh". After doing that it worked like a champ. Guess I should have done that before I posted a new thread
