To Hyper-tech or not to Hyper-tech?

To Hyper-tech or not to Hyper-tech?
I just got off the phone with Hyper-tech and we kicked-around what I'm looking to do with my 88 Vert L-98 (I know people here recommended a chip to me in the past). I'm looking for the primary-fan to come on sooner and if that includes a little performance, than that's great too. Hyper-tech recommended a StageII Chip with thier stat and secondary switch also, all of which open at 160. Right now I have a 195 secondary switch and a 180 stat installed, everything else is stock. So, is the Stage II the way to go? Is there any other options that anyone else is running?

Easy way to have your fan come on earlier with a 160 stat you wont gain any performance though. worked for me as turning it on early was all I was after.

I kinda thought so, I mean I really don't expect a chip to give me anymore performance, but the fan temp is what I'm really after. I also have my timing bumped up to 8 drgrees, should I put it back to 6 when I add the chip? Hypertech said to bring the timing back to 6, change the stat to 160 and change the secondary switch to 160 as well, is this the way to go?

Id do what the mfr recommends. They add a little timing to their chip I believe doing it manually throws everything off.

Thanks. I'm gonna pick-up the chip this week. Hyper gave me a Summit quote of $201.95 without the stat or switch, is that around the norm, or is there better deals out there? I mean the switch and the stat I can get local kinda cheap, so those parts are no biggie, but if the chip is out there cheaper, I'm on board. Know of anyone selling an un-needed Hypertech # 128882, I'm such a "cheapskate" sometimes.

A hyper crap isn't going to give you any performance gain. You can have your chip reprogrammed for the fan to come on earlier for half what they want.

You got my attention Your saying that I can have my stock chip reprogrammed? If so, who does that and what mods do I have to do? I have the 195 secondary switch, a 180 stat and 8 degrees of timing, does that have to be changed? I need names and numbers, I'll start the ball rolling on this right now.

I left a message and am waiting for a call-back. I read all the information on the site and this is the way I'm gonna go. it seems to me that I'm gonna get exactly what I'm looking for as far as the calibration of the car's systems .

There are other tunes here on the forum. I hear Mseven does a great job as well. Maybe you should post in the tune forum.

If all you're looking to do is turn on the fans sooner why not just install a lower temp fan switch? Its gotta be cheaper then a POS Hypercrap chip.

BTW, years ago when my car was fairly stock, I installed a JET stage 2 chip. I assume its gotta be pretty similar to the Hypercrap chip. I took it to the track and did back-to-back tests with the Jet vs the stock chip. The stock chip was .15 seconds quicker on average. I yanked it out and sold it on the Bay.
