Default Do they make a LT1 replacement crate motor?

As the owner of a high mileage 92 with a LT1 I was wondering does GM make a drop in crate motor for my car? I just bought a GM Vortek crate motor for my Tahoe and that project went well. I have no idea what's out there for the C4 vette I can find lots of options for the earlier C3 engines. Any ideas?

Not what I was hopping to hear. No wonder I didn't see any listed with the normal vendors that I look at.

The approximate life span of the LT1 was 5 years mabe 6 there is a message there.... All other GM built engines past and present have much more history. The C4 ZR1 was not built by GM to my knowledge so an exception in my mind. The Gen 1 engines given similar intakes heads and cam can easily duplicate the performance of an LT1. For every benefit of the cooling sytem change there was an offsetting compromise so in the end a not worth the effort exercise otherwise the LS series of engines would not exist. There are a bunch of people that might dissagree but the history speaks for itself.

Looks like some nice options on that link. I would have to learn more because if you put something built up horsepower wise I would guess the computer would not know how to get the most out of it without modifing that too. I really don't know I'm more of a carburetor guy but am enjoying learning about this stuff now that I own a C4.

I like the way you think rodj, but I'm so happy with the car I want to keep it pretty much as is. Worst case I guess I can buy an engine from a junker and freshen it up.

How many miles does your engine have and what exactly is wrong with your current engine? I have a 96 auto with about 150,000 miles on it. I asked a similiar questions like yours and found out that the LT1 can run for many miles with proper maintenance. I wanted to rebuild mine but after checking the compression, everything was normal and my engine still runs strong with no fluid leaks or loss of power. Depending on how well your engine runs (not how many miles are on it) maybe you should save your money and just drive it until you really need to replace it. Then you can use the money you saved and build yourself another motor with more power.

Last time I checked, all the major auto parts stores(autozone, pep boys, etc) offered some sort of LT1 crate motor. If you do your research you can also find some with 4 bolt mains and aluminum heads.

Just make sure about the mains as f-bodies came with aluminum heads, but only had two bolt mains.

Thanks guys. Just trying to get my ducks in a row. I have time. The car is still running strong. I just put a new GM crate motor in my Tahoe and was trying to do the same thing with the vette when it is time. Looks like I do not have that option with a GM crate motor.
Looks like my options are to rebuild my engine or buy a remanufactured one. Looks like I'll be driving it as is untill it really needs an engine.

GM doesn't rebuild their own motors. They farm it out to the same companies that supply the major autoparts chains. I know Ford uses ATK which is the same as a Pep Boys crate motor. You could call GM parts and ask who does their rebuilds then find out who retails them. Not a bad option with a 3yr 100,000 mile warranty. These crate motors are longblocks that are ready to put your valve covers and oil pan on.
