Default newly installed tranny questions

So, I finally installed my auto, and the transmission shifts fine into 2nd. 3rd shifts around 30, and overdrive comes in at about 70. Tv cable adjustment Im sure. What about when it downshifts when pressing the brake and coming to a stop, it shifts hard, feels like a clunk. Someone should come for a visit to see what Im talking about.

Adjust your TVI cable first and see if that solves the problem.

Overdrive (which I call 4th) should come in around 40-45.

70 is definitely too late.

If your pressure is too high, it will down shift hard coming to a stop.

Not good for the 'new' tranny.

It sorta sounds like your torque converter is locking but not unlocking. Try disconnecting the 4 pin connector at the trans and see if that makes a difference.

How did you adjust the TV cable? What procedure?

Actually, it sounds like you have the wrong governor in the trans. I am not sure you have one though.
Not familiar with the computer controlled shift, but my problem would translate into a bad vehicle speed sensor for you, or you have the wrong one installed.

There is a 4 pulse and a 2 pulse. sound like you need to get the VSS out of your old trans.

I have an 86, and it's different than yours, but the principles are the same.
I have a governor that needs a 3.07, and I have a 2.58. THe trans shifts at 49 instead of 45 like it usd to. My exhaust is too close to the trans to fully pull out the governor, and that prevents me from just switching out the governor. it is irritating, but it shifts 5 mph late, so that's not all that bad.
When I get a chance, I will pull the exhaust and switch it out.

a 92 has a tv cable and governor, just like your 86. Shifts are not computer controlled. Check tv cable, line pressure and make sure the governor is free and not sticking.

I adjusted it according to the fsm, and it was terrible, wouldn't get out of second, and when you pressed the go pedal only a little, it down shifted. I tightened the tv cable and loosened the throttle body cable and it shifted normally except the downshift and the late shift into overdrive.

High line pressure is not a bad thing in the 700R4 , far better than low which will destroy the box. That TV cable adjustment is vital , it controls line pressure as well as shift point , if it's maladjusted its gonna mess up the box and not just the shift points.
You get an aftermarket constant line pressure valve body which then takes line pressure away from the TV cable and only uses the TV cable for shift points.
To me , it sounds like a hydraulic problem within the box , I assume you had it worked on prior to installation? If so , take it back.
