New 700R4 clunks (HARD) into 1st when coming to a stop?
I just had my 700R4 trans re-built about 2 months ago and it seems to clunk hard into 1st when coming to a stop from say 35mph. I am used to automatics shifting back into first, but this one hits pretty hard, and loud. I just need to know if this is normal for a new trans, or does something need to be adjusted. I should also add that I had a shift kit installed with the re-build.

Mine does the same..even my pickup does it without the shift kit and it has 80,000 miles on it. I personally would rather have it solid than slushy and I don't believe it hurts the solenoid or clutch packs at all.

Mine does and did from 3-2 2-1 is a little softer. It's normal. Not to worry. I had nutty bands, and koulene clutches installed in mine to take the torque. That helps!

I mine does that too, other gears are smooth but 2-1 downshift is hard. When I bought my car I was worried about it and asked my mechanic about this. He test drove and said "it is just the way I like it - don't worry about it, there is nothing wrong".
So, im happy and have driven 32Kmiles ever since.
