I found that annoying vibration pic...rip dana 36
Havent driven the Vette much , working on the house .
Finally got around to the Vette .
When you let off the gas the vibration seemed to go away . I think I have done a couple track days like this .
Im guessing the pinion bearing gave up .
Two teeth off the pinion .
I have a Dana 44 going in its place .

nice, i would never dare to mess with the gears like u, even though i can take the engine apart and put it back together, i always thought gears need to be done by a pro... is it that easy or u r a pro?

I have only done a couple rear ends . This one was a 3:73 bought on this site from a member . Lasted two seasons . No biggy .
Some one took the time to deburr the case , and the pattern looked good when I put it in . I bought an assembly , looked it over and put it in . I did not set the gears up .

While I have done some rearend work, (not on a Vette) I have never set pinion depth which is from my understanding the most critical setting. Since I do have the tools needed to do it I would not be afraid to give it a shot on my own car. I've built my own engines for years and have done the Vette 700R4 and a Turbo 400 trans so if I can whip those a rearend setup should be no problem. Having said that, I hope I never have to find out.

Theres a whole lot to know to set up a rearend right.
Pinion depth shimming the posi setting backlash, what order to do what, what changes another setting etc.
not worth ruining expensive parts for.
Think I paid $275 to have all new races and pinion bearings installed.
Totally worth it done in 2 hrs.
Rearends are not a bolt in and drive deal.

Whoever does the pinion, make sure they change the crush collar. Guys try to get away with using the old one over and it always ends badly. Even machine shops......
