Default 1988 key fobs
Did the 1988 c4 come with a key fob type remote? I bought a 35th anniversary and was wondering if I can get a factory remote that will open the doors.

No, it did not.

1993 was the first year for the C4 keyless entry system.

You can purchase an aftermarket remote door-lock, unlock, along with a rear hatch release. You can get the horn to beep so you know if the command is working.
