injector clicking sound
I have a clicking noise that is intermitent when you lift hood sounds like coming from one of the injectors rather than a lifter. Also seems to have a slight miss on light acceleration, are my injectors starting to go south on me? 1987 stock motor, what size injectors should I replace them with, looking more for a dependable cruise car rather than a power car.

Re: injector clicking sound (kattim1)
There's a lot of things that can make clicking noises and it's perfectly normal. Loud lifters are very common, not in itself a reason to replace.
There are also a lot of things that can cause a rough accelleration or light missfire. What have you checked/replaced lately?
The first thing I would do it run the car at night, with the hood open and the hood lights unplugged. Inspect the spark plug wires for any signs of a 'luminous glow', you want total darkness here. If any wire glows, it's bad.
I think wires are the number one cause of 'rough' acceleration. Bad O2 sensors/fouled spark plugs are number two. Injectors are normally at the bottom of the list.

Re: injector clicking sound (BBA)
Injectors usually make a ticking noise, and a weak lifter is usually a sign of lack of oil. Unless youre having starting problems, the injectors are likely not the case. If its missing, its more likely she needs a tune-up. However, it would not be a bad idea to either have your injectors replaced or reserviced as routine maintenance.

Re: injector clicking sound (BBA)
only thing that is new or replaced recently is the O2 sensor, noticed the slight ruffness after that. Plugs and wires are new (less than 5K miles)

Re: injector clicking sound (kattim1)
Hey kattim, that ticking sound from the injectors is normal. I had a simular question not to long ago and purplec4 set me straight. I had thought it was a lifter. He also gave me a great tip on how to listen to the injectors in a more direct way. Take a long handled screw driver, place the end on the injector and place your ear to the handle, they sound like little time bombs. You can also do this same thing on other parts of the engine. Everything has it's own unique sound.
Hope this helps
