How do you break in a new clutch/pressure plate and flywheel?
I am having a new stock GM clutch, pressure plate and flywheel installed in my 95 LT1 today. (My original clutch had 98K miles on it.)
Is there a break-in period or are there any special driving techniques I need to do with the new clutch?
Also, have any of you had to have a new flywheel installed? Chevy told me that they could not resurface my old flywheel and that I needed a new one. The flywheel alone cost $1200.
Thanks for any info you can help me out with.

I did the same repair on my 94 a couple of months ago, including the new flywheel. Drive it like Granny for a couple of weeks if it is driven daily (it is OK to accelerate hard once completely off of the clutch pedal). If not daily driven, then longer. Heating and cooling cycles are what it needs. Stay off of the clutch pedal as much as possible. Little to no gas from a standing start. Good luck!

I broke my clutch in over about 800 miles. The Centerforce recommendation was 500 miles of stop/go traffic, but most of my travel is highway. Don't slip it TOO much. Be smooth from a stop, and don't dump it into gear for a few hundred miles. :) Mine was really jerky for about the first 5 engagements, and now has been smooth as silk.

$1200 for a flywheel is way too much. I was quoted $890 from a dealer and $600 from someone else.

If you are having the work done at the dealer ask the service writer if he'll get it at his cost. They want your business and I think the service writer/manager can get it for around $800. Mine was willing to do this for me until I called around. I ended up going with SPEC.

$1200 for a flywheel! That is crazy! I think I'll have to go single mass route when I replace my clutch!
