Default 84 water pump

Soooooooo my 84 keeps on over heating. And my guess is the water pump but this water pump is less than 5 months old. I wanna say I got from advanced auto parts but can't say that's 100%. This is the second water pump. Is this a common thing? Or should I invest in a better water pump?

I took out the thermostat because it was rusted out and didn't allow any flow. And the radiator is less than a year old

Get a good 195 t stat, flush out your system, clean out in front of radiator (leaves/papers), make sure air dam is there, make sure the cooling fan comes on at aprox 230*, get all the air out the cooling system.

Water pumps are simple contraptions. They might leak with age, but they generally keep pumping. Something else has gotta be wrong. In addition to the good suggestions from the previous posters, I gotta ask:

1) Is your "new" pump a reverse rotation pump?

2) Is your spark timing correct?

3) Do you have a blown head gasket? (My '84 let loose at 38k miles.)
