Just wondering why Optispark durability varies so much, I know of a 95 with 260K miles with the original Opti. in it, then some are replacing them all the time. Is the quality that inconsistent when they are made, just asking because it is weird to hear Opti. story's like that both ways, it's like either their good or bad with no in between.

Couldn't tell you why the variation. And it doesn't seem to matter what brand.

Did we say whether your Opti has the Mitsubishi optical sensor? Maybe I missed that on this thread.

beware the no name pickups... that's my warning.

And junk bearings with suspect seals...

I have owned my 92 for 13 years. I know the Opti inside and out. The weakness? The Cap and rotor design, in regards to no serviceability.

You can't just pop it off and clean it. Sand off the carbon every 25k miles like you can with an HEI.

The Mitsu pickups are life time parts, these? no comment.

From what I hear Mitsubishi are going out also.
Are you saying the ProComp has junk bearings and seals?

Yes they will fit. Your 94 probably uses a NON Vented. But you should double check.

Is there any adjustment needed when installing them? After having mine replaced the car misfires out the left side exhaust and and sometimes out the throttle body. Back to the drawing board

Hi mrttype,
Thank you for your business.
There is not any adjustment required. Not sure why it would be missing out one side exhaust. Is that at idle? Was it doing that before you installed the new Opti? Is it possible the spark plug wires got damaged or crossed when doing the change over?

Thanks
Christian

If you did, you'd know that the cap and rotor are both REMOVEABLE, as well as REPLACEABLE....

I'm a member of CF primarily because I own a C-5, however I also own a '96 Z-28, which has an Optispark, and I've replaced the cap and rotor on my unit in the past. Both Standard Ignition Products, and MSD sell caps and rotors for the Opti.....

I have never looked that closely yet, but I SUSPECT that what he is actually saying is that replacing the cap and rotor alone is not PRACTICAL since you have to perhaps remove the coolant, the water pump, and perhaps even the harmonic damper rim to GET to that rotor and cap? Am I correct or wrong?
