overfilled tranny fluid by 1/2 quart...is it ok ???
It reads about like this on the dipstick when hot. [XXXXXX]-----]
The last line is where mine reads. about 1/2 quart past full. Is this ok or should i buy a pump and get it out through the dipstick tube ???

I would get it out if I could, it may not hurt anything but why worry about it

Did you check it while running, & hot..? I dont think 1/2 qt overfill will hurt anything..

Make sure you check it hot (after at least 15 minutes of driving). Run it through all the gears while it's sitting there and then check while it is on and in park. If you're above the line by much, i would stick a tube down the dipstick tube and try to suction some out. You don't want an excessive amount in there.
half a quart really isn't that much, but make sure it's only a half quart that your over. i think a half quart would be equal to about half a cm on the dip stick.

An auto trans. overfilled will cause foaming of the fluid and possible damage. Whether 1/2 qt. is to much of an overfill, when in doubt.......

1/2 of a quart would be the max amount to over fill a trans. I would not go over that. As mentioned in another post, Did you take the car for a ride to get the trans to go through all the gears? That will tell you if the trans is over the full mark. If you checked the trans after you filled the trans, and did not drive it. It will most likely go down a little.

Re: overfilled tranny fluid by 1/2 quart...is it ok ??? (89NYFINESTVETTE)
here's what i did........
1. Added 4.5 quarts
2. Let it warm to operating temp
3. Shifted through the gears
4. Checked it and looked good
5. Took it out on the road
6. Came back and added .5 quarts more
Don't know if it is 1/2 quart or a pint to much. Pretty much half the distance of the add/full area.
But added a total of 5 quarts and thats what the book said.
