LT4 Front Crank Seal
Has anyone ever been able to change the front crank seal on an LT motor in car? I have a 96 CE LT4 and I have the front of the engine all torn apart for an Opti Replacement and I found where my oil leak has been coming from. It is definitely the Front Crank seal. Thanks!

I have! just remove the damper and the hub. I used a piece of all thread some washers , big socket and a nut to draw the seal into position.
I'll look for my pics.

I have a hub/ wheel puller that will get it off but getting it on I'm not sure about. It should be keyed right? I'm about to go out in the garage and mess with it now. I have been having a hell of a time with this job with my supercharger still installed on the bracket.

Tools I use to remove the hub
Cut down extension I use in the crank hole IOT keep the puller from bottoming out
I use an adjustable wrench to keep crank from turning when removing crank bolt
My puller extends in front of crossmember and gives room to spin the puller

It is a factory damper but for some reason its hitting on the rack and hub. I tried just pulling it up out and it won't go. The car is an LT4 w/ hotcam and P1sc with supporting mods.

No I uninstalled the damper 1st. I pulled the car out and did a good scrubbing/degreasing for a few hours. Letting it dry tonight and I'll look at it better tomorrow in the daylight to see whats going on.

The ONLY way to remove the dampner off of an LT4 is to raise the engine about an inch.
Easy to do....just did this about two months ago.
Oil pan must be in place.
Loosen the the 18mm nut on the bottom of each motor mount,
Place a block of wood under the oil pan,
Use floor jack to lift engine about an inch,
Reach in and lift the dampner out,
Lower engine back into place.
To put the dampner back on, again raise the engine.
Just leave the nuts on the motor mount studs; unscrewed to the bottom of the threads.
