Default Can oil pan be removed in car? 1985

I have a Oil pan leak on my 85, and im wondering if the pan can be removed in car? It has longtube headers if that makes any kind of difference. Thanks

Yes. Take the dust cover off the bellhousing, the starter if its stock 85. Mini starter can probably stay in place. Drop the pan. I use an air ratchet, makes it quick.

I have had the pan off my '90 with it in the car. I did not have to remove the starter since mine is the smaller one.

not sure about the headers, but the pan will come off with the engine in place in the stock configuration. may have to drop the exhaust though - can't remember. word of advice - pay attention to the location of all the nuts, bolts, brackets, studs, etc, that secure the oil pan. there's something like 20 pieces of hardware - it's easy to get things mixed up. suggestion - fel-pro one piece gasket. the only way to fly...

You also have to turn the crankshaft so the counterweights clear the front of the pan. After you drop it a little you can see where they need to be.

My 84 happens to be on the hoist to replace the rack and pinion as we speak. I just took a look, drop the starter the trans dust cover then the pan nothing in the way. Well almost nothing, for some reason when i have a car in the air my dog likes to sleep right under it,don't ask. good dog just likes that spot,he slept there before i put in a lift.

those 20 pieces of hardware can not be used if you use the felpro 1 piece gasket because it is thicker and felpro gives you new longer bolts and they don't have a stud on the other end to use the brackets. also use a generous amount of silicone on the corners to prevent leaks. my friend didn't and his leaks like a siv. you can use zip ties and and sheet metal screw the brackets to secure the hoses and stuff that was mounted to the pan bolts.
