86 with a 383 stroker

Sounds more fun to build your own. I don't remember who but they purchased a turnkey kit, tore it down and found a lot of material stuck to all the bores. Love and pride doesn't always go into everyone assembled.

What mech ability do you have?
( as in ; can you build a engine from a bare block and a pile of parts ???)
What budget?
How much Hp you looking for?
What end use ?
Block or short block ; big difference?

383 & TPI is not such a great combo.. the TPI setup hands down produces the BEST low end!!
Now you add the high TQ, high air volume of a 383 you will need 2 series gears to limit power to hookup.
And the TPI will choke out the upper end..

I highly recommend a 1piece tapered ring compressor. The landing ring is much different on the high set wrist pin. Are you clearing the block??? For the crank & rods. I open all internal oil returns. Grind all external casting imperfections. Be very thorough on the ring gap. Measure everthing. The amount of money & Time you would waste improving TPI.. you would spend much less. with a way better flowing aftermarket intake. a cleaner look. And easy installation.
PS
You would need GOOD flowing heads and not 58cc or your compression will be in the 12:1 range Im @ 11.4 with 64cc heads & -.005 two valve relief

A 383 with a TPI intake is like breathing through a straw underwater.
I'd at least buy an Accel or TPiS base manifold for a future Superram swap.

The FIRST is good if you are married to the look of the TPI
A heavily ported Superram works real real well also.
If it was me go stright to a shorter runner intake you dont need super long runners to make torque wiht the stroker. They can gulp a WHOLE lotta air. 33 cubes doesnt sound like much but its the stroke not increase in bore than makes them breathe so put an intake on it that wont hinder it otherwise whats the point.

would i be better off to do an lt1 swap or would i run into a bunch of wiring, dash configuration, and ecu problems. and if i decide to keep my l98 what would be the best start out with. im planning of rebuilding anyway cause the motor does have some miles and i think bout boreing either way, i would like stronger cam, and heads, as for intake manifolds im not really sure bout the direction i want to go consider this is my first tpi i have own. im look to get get around 375 but i would settle any where around 350-425 hp. i want something i can drive on the weekend but could still take to the track

LT1 swap is a waste.
Just get converted LT1 intake and save a wholllle lotta $ and headache.
They show up in the parts sectino already done for under 5 bills. Theres your poor mans miniram easy to work on too.

My car used to run 11 teens with a 383 and SuperRam and 10.4 compression.

I agree with the others that a TPI style intake is probably not ideal for a 383. That being said, I have a 383 with a TPI intake on my 91. It has gone 11.8x at 113 with a 1.55 60' time which isn't too shabby for a long tube runner intake.

Well that sounds pretty close to ideal to me

Just saw a SuperRam on ebay not long ago. I think it was complete.
