mini starters question

I bought a Summit Racing hitachi-style mini starter for my '87 when I installed my Hedman headers.
It bolted right in with the headers installed and the existing wiring fit perfectly; no stretching or replacing the positive battery cable . The best part was that it weighed about 7 pounds and the shipping was free.
One thing that a number of guys that I talked to mentioned that the Powermaster starter was not a good choice. So far, the Summit brand has worked fine.

Your profile mentions '86 and you hint that it's for that car. How did you arrive at the 168 tooth flywheel? Is it a build that you've assembled? I'm quite confident that it originally should have been a 153 tooth build.
I see also another thread you started even later this evening?

Safety Car
I have a Summit Brand 820323 mini on my 84 Corvette race car and it works fine.... been on the car since 2005 turning a 10.5 compression pump gas 427 SBC. While street legal this is mostly a race car and it dosen't get driven on the street a bunch so I don't know how it would deal with serious heat soak. I normally wouldn't own or use a Summit brand part on my cars but this starter came on the 84 when I bought it.... I will say it's been a good one so far and I intend to keep it as long as it dosen't give me any problems.
I have had (2) different Powermaster's on my 92 street car which has a very high compression 383 LTX that would kill the part house rebuilt GM factory mini starters in a few months of street driving... The first Powermaster was a 9600 and it started having hot start problems after a year. I now have a Powermaster 9502 and it's been great for over 2yrs. Very nice piece specifically built for the C4 Corvettes.
Your 86 should have a 153 tooth flywheel unless someone changed it.
