Anybody using Hawk brake pads?
I recently put the Hawk HPS pads on my car, the ones in the blue box. I am not real happy with how much pressure I have to use to apply the brakes. I have a new booster & master cylinder also so I need to know others feelings about these pads so I can know if I need to go looking for a problem possibly in the calipers. I also have the DRM bias spring in the master but that was in the old master also. Even with my mild cam I believe I have sufficient vacuum to operate the brakes properly.

There is no pedal pump up, it stops in the same position every time but I will try bleeding them again.

I've got the same feeling, take a look at the pic I posted below.
Rotors were turned just enough to clean & true them up. The new pads were bedded properly and I just got back from a 950+ mile trip. The car will stop in an emergency situation with no problem but I really have to stand on them. The pic below shows a pattern that is on the rotors, I just washed the car so the rust made a good contrast so the pattern showed up better.

If you installed these pads on used rotors or if you failed to totally clean the rotors before bedding, you may have to use them for 50-100 miles before you get good braking. The slight grooves cause terrible braking with new pads on used rotors. I have Hawk performance ceramics on my '90 and they stop GREAT with little pedal pressure. I used a disc sanding pad on my portable drill motor to burnish all 4 original rotors before bedding.

Forgot to mention, no air in system, I just bled them again. Engine vacuum is rock steady at 15, maybe I need a different vacuum canister? The stock one is good, holds vacuum forever.

Broken check valve!! I started the car for a few minutes then shut it down. I went to pull the check valve out of the booster to see if there was any vacuum and half of it came off in my hand, the other half was still in the grommet. I now have good brakes and the engine is even running stronger. I'll be adding this to my ever growing list of new parts that are broken or just won't work right out of the box.

You are so right, especially since I had a VERY close call just before I had them fixed. If the car did not handle the way it does I would have centerpunched some old hag who turned in front of me.
