Default headers

Hey All, I have an 86 w/L98. I have installed exhaust from manifolds back. I am getting ready to do some engine upgrades and I'm wondering what headers work well with these engines. I have read some have clearance issues and need mods, but have read some fit fine, looking for some that I don't need to change brackets/or modifications to other equipment. Long tube V. short? What are you using? Thanks

I have the same question but am a few montsh out from asking it. I was looking for something that gave a bit of extra clearance, some short or low profile headers.

Gent's,

I'm using the long tube headers from TPIS on my 1990 Vett (383 Stroker). They fit like a glove, have a very nice finish coat applied to them and for the price you can't beat it!

They also sell the Y-pipe however, a good exhaust shop can build that for you if needed. FYI, spend the money on a good band clamp as well.

You can get a set of 1 5/8" Hedman headers for about half what the other brands cost.. Alot of guys on here have used them, from what I've read most haven't had any problems.. The 1 5/8" headers should be great on a unmodified engine, but if you intend to mod in the future you may want to go 1 3/4" with something like TPIS, Hooker, Exotic muscle, Stainless works, and I know there are a few Im forgetting..Also ceramic coated headers make all the difference in the world with no maintenance.......WW

I have Hedman long tube ceramic coated. With EGR tubing so emissions pass and no codes. Mine were put on outside the car while the engine was on a stand. Just make sure you have room to work. So Damn tight in there.

You'll need to get heated O2 sensor. An unheated O2 sensor won't get hot enough for the ECM to go into closed loop mode.

It will but it will drop out of CL when the headers cool off while at idle
