l98 rebuild
My l98 seized due to being drove with no oil. My question is do i have to use an l98 block to rebuild the engine or can i just use a standard Chevy 350 short block and use the components of the l98

The Corvette block has the oil dip-stick tube on the R/H side. Others are on the left.

My 383 motor uses a late 80s 4 bolt truck block...Everything was moved from one engine to the other with no problems and the dip stick is on the passenger side just like the L98........WW

L31 crate motor short blocks a perfect for what you are doing.
The r/h dip stick is specific to year of motor not the fact that it is "corvette" or not.
If you can find a good vortec 350 truck motor take out with low mileage 1996-2000 that will work great also. take the Vortec heads off and sell then and recoup some money.
or a new one like this...

The way I remember it all 350 Chevy 2 bolt main blocks from a set year to another set year are the same. In my 1988 L98 case I think was from early 1970's to the 1990's. Im sure someone will correct me.

my 383 uses a 70's block, it has provision for a dipstick tube left and right on the block, in the photo below you can see the left side dipstick hole which i blocked with a plug,
the main thing is, do you need a 1 or 2 piece rear main seal block (mine is 2 piece) - everything after 1986 is 1 piece, if yours is 1987 you will have to find a 1 piece seal block.

I have built a 1970 truck block/engine to go in /replace my stock 86. No problems with the block ,but, I am using vortec heads which add another 4 to 5 hundred bucks to the build.( because of the special manifolds these use. Carb manifolds are only 150 bucks, but I want to stay with injection)
