Hoping some one can help with some engine info , trying to find out some details of a 427 L88 the block number is 3963512 heads 3946074 10-10-69 there is another small stamp on the block L I 0r 1 88,
Is it possible to find out if the engine came out of a car or is it a replacement motor, motor is located in Australia,

L88's only came in C3's ; try the C3 Dept

or look online at a site that identifies BBC engines like

FWIW, the L88 first appeared in 1967 (C2's) - 20 units built...

..... Those casting numbers are correct for the period and indicate high horsepower useage ......... check for a stamped number on a machined pad above the timing cover area on the front of the block or at the front of the pass side cylinder head ... if you find a VIN number , you may have a production motor ... in 1969 the LI suffix was for a 390hp 427 w TH400 in a Full-size Chevy , but an LT was a 435hp motor in a vette .............
