C4 fuel pump/sender assy tag code YEH or YPH
what does this code mean?
I've seen many fuel pump assys and they ALL have a 3 letter code like the examples above, YEH, YPL, YPH etc... little tag on the wiring near the plug for the pump assy to plug into the harness has this 3 letter code.
Whats it mean? the plugs seem to fit.; different years seem to be the same. whats the "Y" code about?

If there were changes in production you could be asked to supply that code when buying a pump OR a sender. W, C & H bodied cars had choices for both.
A BG example would be LT5/ZR-1 vs. either L98/LT1 in appropriate production years. There were also choices for EXPORT with leaded fuels still for some models.

so, these should interchange with no issues?
I was concerned with a possible difference in resistance for the fuel level sender on different years...
I know there are subtle differences in the digital cluster in some years, and did not want to install a sender that would not read accurately...
This comes from my current pump getting weak, and I picked up a "spare" pump/sender assy at a swap meet for next to nothing, and was going to just swap them out, rebuild the original and have it on the shelf as a spare ready to go in case of another pump or sender failure. Just unsure of that "Y" code or if it mattered in swapping them out or not..
Thanks

Thanks Cliff. I had seen that as well in my yr FSM but was unsure about others....I couldn't think of any other reason there would be a different tag 'code' on the same yr sender assembly. I have seen different tags on 2 different 87s and the same on an 86 and an 87...so I was a bit confused about this subject.
Knowing there were some slight differences in clusters over the yrs, I just wanted to be sure.
Better to ask a question and appear ignorant than to actually DO something that is stupid....

Believe me WV, it took me many years of "doing stupid" before I learned that. I guess like many folks, my definition of ignorance was incorrect in my youth. Ignorance can be a source of pride if you're smart enough to ask a question...
Now I have a more "Daniel Webster" type definition...
Ignorance is defined by simply not knowing, where stupid is defined as knowing better but doing it anyway...
Now to more philosophical topics like....
is it bad karma to put the full 5 qt jug of used motor oil in the neighbors trash can? ...cause I know the trash guys get really pissed about tires...and will toss them in your yard if they find one in a dumpster or can. Hate to imagine what they'll do with the oil...
Never done that BTW....just wondering...
