Default How to get 30-40hp more from an LT-1?

My friend who is new to C4 Vettes, is looking for a 95-96 C4 for a weekend toy.

He was thinking he could get about 30-40 more hp by Porting the stock heads and exhaust manifolds, Balancing the driveshaft and installing a transmission shift kit. Also, All mods have to be California emissions legal.

He's a retired old school wrencher and I told him I really didn't think so, but I'd ask here.

A REALLY good set of ported stock heads and 1.6 rockers would put an easy 30-40 HP on an LT1....

Just look at the LT4... the only difference was a little compression, 1.6 rockers and better cyl heads. The camshafts themselves were pretty close.

With the LT1 since your pulling the heads to have the ported you can bump the compression a little by having the machine shop/porting shop deck them to 54cc's and install them with the Victor Reinz PN 5898 headgaskets (.026 CD).

The Advanced Induction 190 CNC package would be a good choice.

Driveshaft balance has no bearing on improving anything unlesss he has a vibration.

Shift kit in the 4L60 is not a bad idea but again not going to add any HP.

Ported stockers as will said even on the stock valves oughta do it, sneak a small cam in there.
even wiht the stock manifolds he should easily achieve if not surpass his goals. AFR makes some EO legal heads also
Guess it depends how good he is with a grinder and the final tune.

Dougs makes a pretty nice set of shorty headers that are smog legal for ca also bolts right up to the stock exhaust

Sniffer doesnt know if you have a cam or a larger crank in it fwiw

shift points are controlled in the tune on a 1995.

Ported stock heads would pass the Kali smog ***** visual inspection.
