Default 86 Convertible Deck Lid problem !!!

I put my convertible top down and when I went to put my top up only the drivers side of the deck lid releases. The passenger side will not open. You can hear and feel the actuator trying to release it but i can't open it. I tried pressing down on it while holding the release button but still not luck. I was fixing the plastic trim piece prior to this happening and had to fold back a little piece of the carpet, I was able to pull the carpet out and it still will not open. Is there any other way to release the lock so that I can open the convertible top deck lid to access my convertible top ?

If it is like my 93 there is a lever right behind the seat on both sides to manually release the locks check your owners manual and see if it is the same

On the 86 there is a wire loop attached to each latch. Once you find it give it a tug and it should pop the latch.

I looked for the wire loop and don't see it any where.

I looked in my shop manual as to where they should be but I can't find them in my car.

I have an '86 also and the wire is right under the lid on each side. Maybe yours got put under the carpet for some reason.

Problem solved ! I ended up taking the 2 bolts off that is connected to the bracket that locks into to the latch. The other side opend fine. I found the cables buried under the rug. The reason why the lock would not release is that the cable came off the pin because the retaining press on washer fell off !
