Default 2 cracks in block

I have a crack on each side of my engine between and flush with the top of the 2 center freeze plugs under the center exhaust ports. I flushed the system and put new anti-freeze in July. Is there some kind of "Band-Aid" I can do so I can figure out a new engine or do I just pull it . Thanks for any help.

If They Are Hairline Cracks They Can Be Repaired.

they're about 4 inches long front to back of the block about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch from head. Looks like top of crack sticks out about 1/16" . Is there something that will bond to it or would it have to be welded? I would like it to make it for a couple of months of minimal "fun" driving till I can get new engine together.

I'd say its done for. Not worth the effort it takes to do a maybe fix. SBCs are fairly cheap. No way I'd try to patch it.

Huh? crack sticks out? could what appears to be a crack not be a crack but rather some surface mar from the casting process ? is there any evidence of rust around the "crack"?

I've seen blocks with casting imperfections that looked exactly like a crack.. I wouldn't pull it until you checked it out further...WW

Exactly...

Like, does coolant pour out when it's running?

This is the indicator that the block is history.

Unless there is something very special about the block in the OP's car, it would be a lot of work and at a high price.

Given all that, it would certainly be quicker get a reman short block and replace the old engine.

Testing the block would be a good first step. Rent a cooling system pressure tester and put a good 15-20psi pressure into the cooling system and watch the area to see if there is any coolant leakage. T

If you think about it the fact remains that a 4 bolt main is easy to find and for around $200. Call engine rebuild shops and they can sell you one that is inspected and ready to go. Good luck !
