Default Remove horn button

My 89 coupe's horn does not work and I want to replace the steering wheel. First thing, is how do I remove the horn button?

It has been a long time but it seems that you just pry it off. Use a shop rag to cushion the flat blade screwdriver or prying device.

Here is a thread about horn problems that you may find helpful. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...operative.html

The buttons themselves are removed as Ron said by prying them off. Here is what my 1991 Service Manual says:
1 Remove Inflator Module (caution, to do this you first should disable the inflaitable restraint system). The center air bag module is removed from my car by removing a couple of screws from the back side of the steering wheel.
2 Push in two lock tabs on edge of horn button and lift up inside edge.
3 Pull horn button inside and up to unhook two hidden lock tabs on outside edge of horn button
4 Remove 3 Phillips screws retaining switch plate to steering wheel
5 Remove switch from steering wheel

If you decide to disable the SIR system, my 1991 Service Manual does it this way:
1 Ignition switch off
2 Pull the SIR circuit fuse
3 Remove the lower trim panel (above your knees when in drivers seat)
4 Disconnect CPA which is Connector Position Assurance (the yellow wire and connector in the wiring harness at the base of the steering shaft)

Your car may be different, I do not know.
