Changed oil pressure sending unit....not the problem. Oiil pressure goes to less than 5 psi sometimes to 0. Recovers to normal for days, sometimes weeks. Oil temp is always normal when this occurs...car runs fine. Tried changing oil filter and synthetic oil but no change with the weird oil pressure symptoms. Don't know what to try next. It happens so intermittently that even if I went to the mechanic to check he oil pump the pressure would be normal and stay that way....that is until I left the mechanic then back to weirdness.

Have you verified the pressure with another gauge (like an Autometer Pro Comp mechanical unit)? If so it may be an issue with the oil pump and or something obstructing the pickup temporarily; is it original? It's not too bad to get the oil pan off but I would make sure and verify that it is indeed hard part related before I did it. Just my .02

It is recommended that you connect a mechanical oil pressure gage
to the engine to determine 'real' oil pressure.

A spun rod or main bearing can cause low oil pressure.

Disconnected oil sending unit and connected Mechanical oil pressure gauge; reading normal at all temperatures. However, puzzled that the dash gauge was still reading erratic while the mechanical gauge was hooked up. Where is the dash gauge getting its reading from? are there 2 sending units on this car?

Sounds like your dash gauge is the culprit.....
