Default Help - Floppy High Beam Lever

Ok, I was suffering from a floppy high beam lever on my '89. Everything else works. Dropped column, adjusted high beam switch, actuator rod brings up the high beams when actuated from below with pliers. Pull the steering wheel, etc, pulled the actuator as pictured. Found that a previous owner had broken the extended tab off. Next problem where do I find one of these ? 1989 base cpe with tilt/telescopic. This is the part that the multi-function lever slides into. I been using google, but I'm not even sure what this part is called.

Not sure what you mean by the extended tab but this link helped me with the issues I had. http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...s-of-pics.html If you can move the wheel left - right or up - down without using the tilt lever it is likely that the pot metal casting that allows the tilt is at fault. It will left the switch get out of place relative to the high beam actuator and there is a black plastic piece that can fall out.
I was able to remove the pins from my tilt mechanism and apply a very small amount of JB Weld in the the open. I then applied a very thin film of gease on the pin and re-inserted them. After a couple of days to cure I reassembled the column and it has been good for two years now. Here is another good write up http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c4-t...pictorial.html

You need a GM # 7841314 pivot - you can find a good image of it either using Google, Amazon or eBay. Corvette Central and most other resellers should have reproduction stock. This is the part number that the turn signal lever stalk actually slips into.

Shouldn't be a reason to rush to those. There's stock at Corvette Central, Ecklers, others and priced similarly. Not less expensive but it could maybe be combined with other parts. I didn't shop it very hard.

I doubt that any of these would be OE/GM but reproductions done for them. Would an OE/GM used be the preferred? Don't know!

Your right, I just read farther down on the add and it does say reproduction..One advantage to buying it on the ebay site I posted , there's only a $5.00 shipping charge.. The sites mentioned above charge a minimum of around $10.00 to $12.00 dollars to ship the part........WW

Thanks for the replies. GM # 7841314 pivot is the part. Wow, 10 bucks to ship the part. I guess shipping and handling are a big part of the income stream.

I recently fitted a new indicator/hi beam lever and pivot but still had too much flop. The hole in the pivot that the arm fits into was not made tight enough so I ended up epoxy gluing the two together. Nice and firm now. Should last another 30 years - hopefully.

I called the vendor that had the part on Amazon ( hint: CC ) They won't even have it in stock until the 23rd. Ended up ordering on Ebay, same price 4 bucks cheaper to ship.
