Z51 steering is 2 or 2 1/4 turns lock to lock, Z52 is 2 3/4 turns. Also the rpo codes listed under the console cover should show options

In 1988 both options had the quicker ratio steering but Z51 had larger brakes, stiffer springs and shocks.
But Z51 was available only in manual tranny coupes in 1988.
Indeed check under the console lid to see in you have RPO Z52.

Had Z52 on my 87 and it handled awesome. Check your RPO list for all your options. Scorp knows the 80s model cars like the back of his hand so go with what he says

I thought I read that our Z52 had the same turning ratio as the Z51 but had a softer suspension in the rear?

Like most have said apparently they didn't make the Z- 51 in the Convertible for 88
Your build sheet or window sticker will verify what your car has.
The Steering is the same for the Z-51 & Z-52.
The Z-52 is listed on my window sticker as an optional "sport handling package " at an added cost of $470.00..
So you should feel better.. you have a Z-52 ..

I have an 88 convert.
Z52, no Z51 on verts.
Z52, no Z51 on verts.
If you want to know anything else your car has just check the RPO codes under the console lid.
