Warning about corrosion
What to my surprise when I pulled the rocker panels off my car prior to paint prep. Rust! This is a 113,000 mile 91 that lived mostly in Nevada, Arizona and inland North Carolina. I have had it in Michigan for 4 winters but never drove it during the snow/salt season.
The pics are of the frame just behind the driver's front tire. The passenger side has no rust at all.
A member on another forum I belong to said this is from leaking battery acid. You do not see this area of the car with the rocker panels on.
Even though it is just surface corrosion I wire brushed it off and applied some Rustoleum. Hopefully this will keep that area from rusting through for a future owner.
I like the new photo uploading software

leaking battery acid
"leaking battery acid"
very good point!
I have had batteries bulge/leak on GM original batteries. Have not seen it much on other battery brands. They will still charge, but will start to bulge/leak slowly.
I will check my battery tray, last time my looked ok, but that was years ago.
