R12-R134 ac questions on my 92
Supposed to be 95 tomorrow and my ac does not work.
I just scored 30 cans of R12 but after looking at my system it appears to have R134 quick connect fittings on both ports. I did not find a conversion sticker anywhere though.
Should I just assume that it has been converted and recharge with 134?

Burning Brakes
So if that is the case that it is R134, will you have some R12 for sale?

yep...
you can buy R-12 all day on FleaBay for approx. $30 a 12oz can... some deals get a little better if you buy a case but $30 ea is the goin rate.
Its a far cry from $100 a can we saw a few yrs ago when the ban "peaked" and the fear of the total disappearance of the R12 was at its highest. The disinformation and rumors that were spread went like wildfire to drive up the price of NOS R12 supplies.
truth was, that NOT every nation on the planet signed into the Global Warming Initiative that was presented by the U.S. EPA back in the 1990's. This was sold to the world when the EPA and other science presented their evidence that these gasses depleted the earths ozone layer. Remember when the propellants suddenly changed in spray cans and a doz other common household items?
The EPA did manage to end production but not the use of many CFC gasses like R12. IIRC, Mexico still produces, as do a few other environmentally indifferent nations....People used to "smuggle" R12 back from trips to TJ back into the States....with nearly as big of profit margins as drug smuggling, and almost as severe consequences if you got caught !
Point being, that its STILL available and now with 134a being phased out and never really being embraced by the American public, R12 is making a comeback. There is a bunch of reclaimed product available, bunches of NOS that's been stashed away in the corner, and people are starting to "un-do" the retro-fit that were forced to do when the cost peaked near $100 a can....My retro-fit did ok, adequate cooling but NEVER as good as it did when it was R-12. I may be going back myself...
BTW...
all it takes is a simple License to be able to waltz in to your local a/c supply house and legally purchase all the R12 you desire...
The license can be had ONLINE for a small fee. Then you can be circumcised by the EPA to buy and sell R12.
