Default 1985 targa top in 1987 Corvette?

Hi,

I have an early 1985 fiber targa top (and the mounting hardware for the window frame)

Are there any downside if I'm going to install this on my 1987 corvette instead of my cracked cleartop? I never remove the targa top.

I mean, there must be a reason to why the factory changed the mounting hardware?

there is no reason you cant use your setup...a long as you have the correct trim and mounting hardware. I put a 91 top on my 86 simply cause I got a great deal on the 91 setup. use a bit of caution with the rear view mirror screw..i dropped mine and had a heck of a time finding it. Also, no need to take the sunshades apart, they will drop complete.

put a piece of carbon fiber vinyl on you existing top....no need to change hardware or weatherstripping.... maybe 30 bucks......

now that is interesting.. where did you get the carbon fiber vinyl? the top on my 84 is horrible looking, the sun damaged it at some point and when the car was repainted the top was left to look like ****.

Thanks for the answers.

The vinyl actually looks good (great idea), but I think I found the correct fiber top in the forsale section.

The mounting hardware was changed in late '86 when the convertibles were introduced. There are kits available to convert between the various hardware parts and spacing variations from the usual Corvette parts vendors.

I have seen a web site that shows all the variations but I don't have a link to it. Maybe someone else can supply that info...
